Grassau to Salzburg We began another day with the forecast of rain being quite likely throughout the day, but especially around midday. Both of us decided that it would be a good idea to store our rain jackets in the side pockets of our  Tailfin Cargo Packs . We’ve been delighted with these bikepacking bags and even more so as the trip has progressed and we’ve got used to packing them and taking them off and putting them back on the bike. Here’s a look at what we were looking at for our last ride of this great tour … The ride would be about 65 kilometres long - if we didn’t stray too far from the purple line on our Garmins - through some lovely rural terrain with a coffee stop at about 25 kilometres at the town of Traunstein  which has a long history. There is a striking square called the Stradplatz  … The Stradplatz in Traunstein … which was about to hold some sort of festival featuring the local fire brigade and a mob of youth volunteers - when we arrived.  Kufstein to Grassau Today’s ride was even easier and shorter than we thought it would be: both less elevation and less distance. We rode just under 46 kilometres when we were expecting 48.5. Occasionally for no discernible reason, RWGPS does some nonsensical out and backs or little spurs off the route one is building. Unless one literally goes over every meter of every route one builds there is bound to be some of these but rarely such a an amount extra as today. The route was quite pretty as you will see once we are underway. As usual, both RWGPS and Garmin Connect wildly overestimated the amount of elevation, not in small part because we went through three tunnels along the way. This is what the elevation profile looks like and generally the shape is fairly accurate but the one bit which is a series of jagged edges sticking is where the tunnels are and that distorts the amount of up and down.  Innsbruck to Kufstein Departing Innsbruck and riding through to Schwaz Our excellent stay at the Hotel Tautermann in Innsbruck was topped off nicely with an early departure: we were underway at 7:34. This was possible because a) the breakfast room was set up well before the “official” start time of 7:30 and b) both Dianne and I didn’t want a big feed and were keen to get underway ASAP. A quick aside about the hotel: it’s run by the Tautermann family and they clearly pride themselves on the friendly, helpful and efficient service they provide. It’s an old fashioned hotel with a manned desk and has a very nice vibe about it. We’d stay there again if we ever find ourselves traveling to Innsbruck in the future. Today’s ride was quite straightforward, 82 kilometres slightly downhill overall with only 300 metres of elevation.
