Pushing North Along the Adige River

Peschiera del Garda to Rovereto Resting Out of the Heat! 😎 The agenda for our rest day in PdG was to:  hide from the heat rest up get organised for our early departure tomorrow  and most importantly, have dinner and a gabfest with the Three Cliftons and Duckworth To start the day we had a short stroll to the “ Enjoy Garda Hotel ” for an expensive but very satisfying breakfast …  … and then back just past our accommodation   (which counts so far on this trip as our second best place to rest our heads) on to where we knew there was a fresh fruit and vegie shop. We found all the provisions we needed for lunch later in the day and breakfast before departing so we could make an even earlier start on our journey north to Rovereto .  Our plan was to arrive in plenty of time to have a look around the centre of this attractive regional city if it’s not too hot to wander around. If it is, we’ll just hang out somewhere nice in the shade - perhaps in the Piazza Rossi...

Coffee in Verona on the Way to Lake Garda

Monte Tondo Winery to Peschiera del Garda In Piazza Bra outside the arena in Verona There were a couple of things I wanted to share before getting on the road, so to speak. Firstly, check out these empty plastic water bottles … Something that I hadn’t seen before we landed in Munich for this trip but now see everywhere here in the EU, at least every we’ve been on this trip. Every plastic drink bottle we’ve encountered has a lid that does not screw off when you open it. Instead, as shown in the photo, it stays attached to the bottle. Simple idea but a great way to stop these random bits of plastic ending up in the environment. The other thing was this car that was parked outside the Monte Tondo Winery this morning at 6:20 when we went out to get our bikes ready for departure … So what, some of you might think. I know Di wondered why I was bothered taking a photo of the back end of a fairly standard looking automobile. It’s not the license plate - which shows the car is registered i...

A Side trip to an Ancient Walled City and A Fabulous Finish to Our Day

Image
Treviso ~ Cittadella ~ San Bonifacio Perhaps the less said about the riding on today’s journey the better. However, we briefly visited a beautiful ancient walled city on our way to tonight’s destination and our arrival here at the Monte Tondo Vineyard in San Bonficio made it all worthwhile.  Before I go any further in dissecting our journey I need to give a shout out to our friend Harry Pancis. This tour in some ways for us is becoming the “ Bike Friends Austria Kit Trip ”.  I think I mentioned at least once in a previous post that we visited Harry and his wife Petra in Seekirchen am Wallersee  and took them to lunch to show our appreciation for looking after our bike bags for us while we are on this trip, and that afterwards Harry gave us both some cycling kit to take with us.  Early on when it was cool and wet for a number of days we both wore more protective Bike Friends Austria kit: I wore the long-sleeved jersey that Harry gave me and Di wore the excellent...
